The Saint Anselm monastic community began electing an abbot on Monday, April 29, 2024. The community acknowledges the palpable presence of the Holy Spirit in these days, which have been characterized by unity and peace. However, in certain circumstances, even during a positive election process, higher ecclesiastical authority needs to be consulted. We find ourselves in this situation currently.
During this temporary pause in our election process, Abbot President Jonathan Licari, O.S.B., has appointed Father Prior Augustine Kelly, O.S.B., as the community’s temporary administrator while those authorities are being consulted. The planned Thanksgiving service will be scheduled at a later date.
We are grateful for your prayers and support for our community. At the start of the election, all community members were sworn to secrecy regarding the election deliberations. We ask you to please respect the need for secrecy regarding the results of our deliberations and wait with us in patience.
